Art Basel 2025 Public Programme VIP Opening: Chronotopos by Charles-Joseph de Ligne at the Carrousel du Louvre

Monumental Works: Between Impermanence and Perception

At the intersection of the visible and the felt, the Chronotopos exhibition unfolds a shifting space-time through a visual composition of 22 monumental works, in which artist Charles-Joseph de Ligne explores our relationship to reality within a continuous dynamic of transformation.

A private opening reception, reserved for Art Basel VIP guests, will inaugurate the public programme at the Carrousel du Louvre. The evening offers an exclusive walkthrough beneath the Inverted Pyramid and through the Charles V Hall — an experience shaped by the artist’s phenomenological enquiry into time, perception, and the ephemeral nature of all things.

Charles-Joseph de Ligne presents Cœur de Miroir, a public exhibition at the Carrousel du Louvre from 25 September to 6 November 2024.

Shanghai: the origin of a visual language

Following his move to Shanghai in 2013, Charles-Joseph de Ligne encountered a city whose relentless rhythm and luminous density profoundly reshaped his artistic practice. Rather than depicting the urban landscape, he sought to distil its energy into colour, light and gesture. Drawing from both the visual heritage of classical Western painting and the symbolic vocabulary of Chinese culture, he developed a body of work that transcends geographical references in favour of a universal exploration of perception.

Cœur de Miroir investigates the transformative potential of light as a pictorial language. Colour, movement and reflection become the raw material of compositions that oscillate between abstraction and recognition.
